Response to diet

Body Composition

This research area looks at how people vary in their physiological response to changes in diet (for example weight loss, lipid changes, or glucose control on the same eating plan).

GWAS work has examined variants linked to lipid metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and appetite regulation that may modify how the body responds to dietary changes.

This result reflects research-level variation in dietary response and is not a personalized diet plan.

Adherence, baseline body composition, activity, sleep, gut microbiome, medications, and overall health drive most of the real-world response to any diet.

Genes analyzed

Gene summaries include genomic locations and associated markers. A detected genotype does not by itself indicate a health condition.

Understanding the data
SNP
A specific genetic marker relevant to this trait.
Genotype
The DNA letters reported at a marker location.
Variant allele
The alternative DNA sequence at the SNP site.
Variant allele frequency
The reported percentage of the reference population carrying this variant.
Variant found
Whether the variant was detected in your DNA file.

3 of 3 genes have detected genotypes.

ADIPOQ

This gene is expressed in adipose tissue exclusively. It encodes a protein with similarity to collagens X and VIII and complement factor C1q. The encoded protein circulates in the plasma and is involved with metabolic and hormonal processes. Mutations in this gene are associated with adiponectin deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2010]

APOA2

This gene encodes apolipoprotein (apo-) A-II, which is the second most abundant protein of the high density lipoprotein particles. The protein is found in plasma as a monomer, homodimer, or heterodimer with apolipoprotein D. Defects in this gene may result in apolipoprotein A-II deficiency or hypercholesterolemia. APOA5

The protein encoded by this gene is an apolipoprotein that plays an important role in regulating the plasma triglyceride levels, a major risk factor for coronary artery disease. It is a component of high density lipoprotein and is highly similar to a rat protein that is upregulated in response to liver injury. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hypertriglyceridemia and hyperlipoproteinemia type 5. This gene is located proximal to the apolipoprotein gene cluster on chromosome 11q23. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

DNA Genics reports genotypes based on the 'positive' strand of the human genome reference sequence (build 37/HG19). Other companies may use the opposite strand, so genotypes may need conversion for comparison.
