Separate Your DNA Into Maternal & Paternal Lines
Discover which traits and ancestries you inherited from each parent. Our phasing service creates two separate files?one for each parental contribution?enabling deeper genealogical insights and clearer family connections.
What is DNA Phasing?
Understanding Phasing
You inherit 50% of your DNA from each parent. Through phasing, we create two separate RAW files, each representing the genetic contribution from one parent. This allows you to determine which traits or ancestries you inherited from your maternal or paternal side.
DNA phasing is particularly valuable for ancestry and genetic genealogy because it allows you to determine the specific ancestry and DNA matches that you inherited from each parent. This separation provides clearer insights into your family history.
Important Note
In Duo or Trio phasing, the phased files contain only the shared SNPs between the child's file and the parents' files. SNPs that are not shared cannot be phased. We strongly recommend using the same testing company for the child and the parents for best results.
Phasing Options
Choose the method that works best for your situation
Phasing Without Parents
Uses population-level haplotype patterns to statistically separate your chromosomes into maternal and paternal contributions.
- Separate maternal/paternal DNA
- No parental samples needed
- Some ancestry noise expected
Child + One Parent
With one parent's DNA, we can definitively assign which chromosomes came from that parent and which from the other.
- Precise parent identification
- 99% separated ancestry
- Parent 1 = provided parent
Child + Both Parents
With both parents' DNA, achieve the highest possible accuracy for complete parental separation.
- Complete parental separation
- 100% ancestry accuracy
- Highest precision possible
How It Works
