Magnesium is a mineral involved in hundreds of enzyme reactions, including energy production and muscle and nerve function.
GWAS work has identified variants near genes that regulate magnesium absorption and renal handling, leading to small differences in serum magnesium.
This result reflects research-level variation in magnesium-related biology and is not a serum magnesium test or a supplement recommendation.
Diet, alcohol intake, kidney function, GI conditions, medications (such as PPIs and diuretics), and overall health also strongly affect actual magnesium status.
