Eruption of permanent teeth

Physical Traits

The timing of permanent tooth eruption in childhood varies between people and is partly heritable.

GWAS work has identified variants near tooth-development genes (such as KCNJ2 and EDA) linked to differences in eruption timing.

This result reflects research-level variation in dental biology and is not a clinical assessment of dental development.

Nutrition, growth, oral health, primary tooth loss timing, and overall development also affect when permanent teeth come in.

Behind this report

Review the genes, tested markers and supporting research.

Genes analyzed

Gene summaries include genomic locations and associated markers. A detected genotype does not by itself indicate a health condition.

Understanding the data
SNP
A specific genetic marker relevant to this trait.
Genotype
The DNA letters reported at a marker location.
Variant allele
The alternative DNA sequence at the SNP site.
Variant allele frequency
The reported percentage of the reference population carrying this variant.
Variant found
Whether the variant was detected in your DNA file.

2 of 2 genes have detected genotypes.

ADK

This gene an enzyme which catalyzes the transfer of the gamma-phosphate from ATP to adenosine, thereby serving as a regulator of concentrations of both extracellular adenosine and intracellular adenine nucleotides. Adenosine has widespread effects on the cardiovascular, nervous, respiratory, and immune systems and inhibitors of the enzyme could play an important pharmacological role in increasing intravascular adenosine concentrations and acting as anti-inflammatory agents. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]

CACNA1S

This gene encodes one of the five subunits of the slowly inactivating L-type voltage-dependent calcium channel in skeletal muscle cells. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hypokalemic periodic paralysis, thyrotoxic periodic paralysis and malignant hyperthermia susceptibility. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

SNPs tested

These are the unique genetic markers analyzed for this trait. Genotypes showing "--" were not identified in your DNA file. Report marker totals can include repeated study entries; this table shows each SNP once.

DNA Genics reports genotypes based on the 'positive' strand of the human genome reference sequence (build 37/HG19). Other companies may use the opposite strand, so genotypes may need conversion for comparison.
