Iris patterns

Facial Features

Iris patterns include features such as crypts, Wolfflin nodules, and pigmentation rings. They are studied because they are partly heritable and contribute to overall eye appearance.

Variants in pigmentation and structural genes (such as SEMA3A and TRAF3IP1) have been linked to iris pattern features.

This result reflects research-level variation in iris biology and is not a measurement of iris features in any individual.

Age, eye conditions, and pigmentation changes can also affect how iris features appear over time.
