Movement during sleep

Sleep Patterns

Movement during sleep refers to how restless or still a person tends to be during the night, including periodic movements detected in sleep research.

Variants linked to dopaminergic signaling and iron handling have been associated with sleep-related movement traits, including those overlapping with restless legs research.

This result reflects research-level variation in sleep-movement biology and is not a diagnosis of a sleep movement disorder.

Sleep environment, caffeine, alcohol, medications, iron status, stress, and underlying health conditions also affect nighttime movement.

Genes analyzed

Gene summaries include genomic locations and associated markers. A detected genotype does not by itself indicate a health condition.

Understanding the data
SNP
A specific genetic marker relevant to this trait.
Genotype
The DNA letters reported at a marker location.
Variant allele
The alternative DNA sequence at the SNP site.
Variant allele frequency
The reported percentage of the reference population carrying this variant.
Variant found
Whether the variant was detected in your DNA file.

1 of 1 genes have detected genotypes.

BTBD9

This locus encodes a BTB/POZ domain-containing protein. This domain is known to be involved in protein-protein interactions. Polymorphisms at this locus have been reported to be associated with susceptibility to Restless Legs Syndrome and may also be associated with Tourette Syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]

DNA Genics reports genotypes based on the 'positive' strand of the human genome reference sequence (build 37/HG19). Other companies may use the opposite strand, so genotypes may need conversion for comparison.
