The Nez Perce Tribe is a sovereign Tribal Nation headquartered in Lapwai, Idaho. Nimiipuu history and contemporary life are deeply connected to the rivers, fisheries, treaty-reserved rights, and homelands of present-day Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.

Historical homelands
Nimiipuu homelands encompass lands and waters in present-day north-central Idaho, northeastern Oregon, southeastern Washington, and parts of Montana, centered on major river systems.
Government
The nine-member Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee is elected to govern under the Tribe's constitution. The General Council includes adult Tribal citizens.
Contemporary presence
The Tribe governs from Lapwai on the Nez Perce Reservation, protects treaty-reserved fishing, hunting, and gathering rights, and operates language, natural-resource, fisheries, health, justice, education, and social-service programs.
Enrollment is a political citizenship measure defined by the Tribe, not a Census race count.
The reservation is in north-central Idaho; the atlas map does not draw its legal boundary.
