Chapter I

The Story of Ancient South Asia

Long before empires, before the great cities, before the sacred texts were written, humans had already called this land home for millennia.

The first South Asians were Neolithic pioneers at Mehrgarh, one of the earliest farming communities in the world, cultivating wheat and barley on the Kachi plain of Balochistan. They were the foundation upon which the greatest urban civilization of the ancient world would rise: the Indus Valley Civilization.

Harappa and Mohenjo-daro became sprawling cities with advanced drainage, standardized weights, and a still-undeciphered script. To the north, the BMAC (Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex) flourished in Central Asia, while Gandhara became a crucible of Hellenistic, Persian, and Indian traditions.

The Kushan Empire connected South Asia to the Silk Road, while the Himalayan kingdoms preserved ancient lineages in mountain isolation. Through every era, the ancient blood endured, flowing through generations into the modern peoples of South Asia.

"The rivers remember. The mountains remember. The story continues in you."
