Abstract
Summary of the research findings
During development-led excavation in Nîmes (France), a grave was discovered in an area where an early medieval settlement was established upon a Roman necropolis. The burial was notable for the unusual position of the body: head to the south and face turned to the east, lying on its right side in a right-angled position. This position is characteristic of early Islamic burial practices, yet such a burial has never been reported so far in France.
